I’ve always viewed New Year Resolutions as a pretty big deal. We pick out everything in our lives that we want to make better, and promise ourselves we’ll following through. Everyone I know, myself included, always makes at least one resolution each year. They are easily made, and from what you’re about to hear, just as easily given up on. My main resolution this year is to get back to my pre-baby weight. (Yes, three years after the fact.) I don’t have a ton of weight to lose, but it’s enough to make me determined to shed those extra pounds this year. I’m happy to report, so far so good!

Last week I had an opportunity to interview Food Network Host and Lifestyle Expert, Claire Robinson. As you will see in the video, she offered some ideas on how to make clear and concise resolutions that we can stick to, and shared an interesting resolution of her own!
Some of her tips include:
- GET EDUCATED TO MAKE HEALTHIER EATING CHOICES - A common mistake is that people make drastic decisions (such as instantly turning vegan) that are difficult to keep. In order to make healthy choices last for the long-term, you must make taste a priority.
- GET INVOLVED - Make a commitment to give back to your community, focusing on an organization or project that you feel passionate about to kick off the new year.
- CREATE A BUILT-IN REWARD SYSTEM - To reinforce your long-term health goals, you should carry out a built-in reward system that allows you to celebrate the small victories and keeps you motivated.
Yes, I babbled for a minute, and I lost my video reception right off the bat so I wasn’t able to see the lovely Claire during my interview. But one things for sure…I learned a lot of interesting statistics and ideas from Claire! I have to say, I was stunned to hear that so many people have already given up their 2012 resolutions. I think we are too hard on ourselves, and constantly chase the never-ending quest for perfection. I know I’m certainly guilty of it! After my interview with Claire, I walked away a wealth of knowledge and encouragement, along with adopting a new resolution to add to my list: Eat more Dove dark chocolate!! This year, let’s strive to do the best we can by making resolutions that are reasonable, and reward ourselves with a little something for sticking to it!
