Ingredients
- 1 baguette
- 100 g butter, softened
- 4 cloves garlic
- 2 tbsp parsley
- 2 tbsp parmesan (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 200C (400F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Soften half a cup of butter at room temperature, then mash in 4 finely minced garlic cloves, chopped parsley, and a pinch of salt until evenly combined.
- Slice a baguette or loaf of Italian bread in half lengthwise to expose the soft interior.
- Spread the garlic butter generously and evenly over the cut surfaces, making sure to reach all the way to the edges.
- Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until the edges turn golden and crisp and the butter is bubbling and fragrant.
- For an extra crisp finish, switch to the broiler for the final 1 to 2 minutes, watching closely so it browns without burning, then slice and serve warm.
💡 Chef's tip
Mix a small amount of finely grated parmesan into the garlic butter, because it melts into a savory crust on top and helps the bread brown more deeply and evenly in the oven.
Using softened raw garlic mashed into the butter (not pre-roasted) gives that punchy, classic garlic-bread flavor that mellows just enough in the oven.
