Ranch Dressing

Ranch Dressing

Homemade ranch dressing is creamy, herby, and tangy, miles better than anything from a bottle. Fresh herbs and a buttermilk base give it bright, fresh flavor with no preservatives. Use it as a salad dressing, a dip for wings and veggies, or a drizzle over just about anything.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tbsp fresh dill, chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh chives, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder

Instructions

  1. Whisk the mayonnaise and sour cream together in a bowl until smooth.
  2. Whisk in the buttermilk a little at a time until the dressing reaches your desired thickness.
  3. Stir in the dill, chives, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  4. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Cover and chill for at least 1 hour to let the flavors meld.
  6. Stir before serving and thin with more buttermilk if needed.

💡 Chef's tip

Thin it with a splash more buttermilk for a pourable dressing, or keep it thick with extra sour cream for a dip.

Letting the dressing rest in the fridge for an hour before serving is the key step, as it gives the dried and fresh herbs time to bloom and the flavors to meld into true ranch flavor.
