Banana Pudding

Banana Pudding

Banana pudding is a classic Southern no-bake dessert layering creamy vanilla pudding, fresh bananas, and vanilla wafers. Chilled until the wafers soften into cake-like layers, it is pure nostalgic comfort. Topped with whipped cream, it is a potluck favorite that always disappears.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups vanilla pudding or custard
  • 4 bananas, sliced
  • 1 box vanilla wafers
  • 2 cups whipped cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Prepare the vanilla pudding and stir in the vanilla extract, then let it cool slightly.
  2. Toss the banana slices with the lemon juice.
  3. Layer vanilla wafers in the bottom of a dish.
  4. Add a layer of banana slices, then a layer of pudding, and repeat.
  5. Top with whipped cream and a few crushed wafers.
  6. Chill for at least 4 hours before serving.

💡 Chef's tip

Toss the banana slices in a little lemon juice to slow browning so the layers stay fresh and appealing.

Chilling the assembled pudding for several hours is essential, as it lets the wafers absorb moisture and soften into tender, cake-like layers that define the dessert.
