Churros

Churros

Churros are crispy fried dough sticks rolled in cinnamon sugar, golden outside and soft inside. Warm and irresistible, they are a beloved treat at fairs and markets. Serve them with a chocolate dipping sauce for the full experience.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • for frying oil

Instructions

  1. Bring the water and butter to a boil, then stir in the flour until a dough forms.
  2. Let the dough cool slightly, then beat in the egg until smooth.
  3. Transfer to a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
  4. Heat the oil to 180C (350F) and pipe strips of dough directly into the oil, cutting with scissors.
  5. Fry until golden and crisp, about 2 to 3 minutes, then drain.
  6. Roll the warm churros in cinnamon sugar and serve with chocolate sauce.

💡 Chef's tip

Keep the oil at a steady 180C (350F); too cool and the churros absorb oil and go greasy, too hot and they burn before cooking through.

Piping the dough through a star tip creates the signature ridges, which increase the surface area for an extra-crispy exterior and hold the cinnamon sugar.
